6-Week Hands-On Leatherworking Course for Ages 8+

Students will step into the world of traditional craftsmanship as they learn the art of leatherworking. From cutting and stamping to dyeing and assembling, learners will create unique, personal projects each week while building skills in design, patience, and attention to detail. Each participant will leave with a collection of handmade items and the confidence to continue exploring leathercraft beyond the course.

⏰ Time: 1:30 – 3:30 PM
🎓 Ages: 8+
💲 Tuition: $350 per student (6-week session, all materials included)

Course Goals

• Learn foundational skills in leather design, cutting, tooling, stitching, and finishing

• Build creativity, patience, and craftsmanship through weekly projects

• Complete five handmade leather projects to take home

Weekly Journey

• Week 1: Intro to Leatherworking & Safety — Tools, materials, and first cuts

• Week 2: Basic Cutting & Design — Patterns, edges, and a keychain project

• Week 3: Stamping — Adding initials and decorative designs to a bookmark

• Week 4: Dyeing & Decoration — Experimenting with color on earrings or small items

• Week 5: Assembly & Hardware — Snaps, rivets, and a functional bracelet

• Week 6: Showcase & Final Project — Student-choice creation with full skill set

Leathercraft 2 - Intermediate Leather

​

6-Week Intermediate Leatherworking Course for Ages 8+

(Prerequisite: Introduction to Leathercraft)

 

Students will build on their foundational leatherworking skills as they move into more advanced techniques and larger, more detailed projects. This hands-on course deepens craftsmanship through tooling, stitching, dye techniques, and construction while encouraging creativity, patience, and pride in completed work. Each participant will leave with multiple finished pieces and the confidence to continue developing their leatherworking skills.

⏰ Time: 4:00 – 5:30 PM

🎓 Ages: 8+

💲 Tuition: $350 per student (6-week session, all materials included)

Course Goals

• Build on foundational leatherworking techniques including cutting, beveling, burnishing, dyeing, and finishing

• Learn tooling, carving, and advanced decorative methods

• Develop stitching and construction skills for functional leather pieces

• Strengthen patience, attention to detail, and craftsmanship through guided projects

• Complete multiple intermediate-level leather projects to take home

 

Weekly Journey

• Week 1: Skill Refresh & Tool Introduction - Review foundational skills, safety reminders, and introduction to advanced tools. Create a personalized name tag project.

• Week 2: Tooling & Carving Basics - Introduction to leather tooling, hand vs. stamp methods, and beginning carved designs. Start ornament or magnet project.

• Week 3: Texture, Detail & Depth - Continue tooling techniques and complete carved ornament or magnet project.

• Week 4: Advanced Dye Techniques - Learn antiquing, block dyeing, brush dyeing, and resisting methods. Begin belt project with beveling, burnishing, and dye work (optional tooling).

• Week 5: Stitching & Construction - Introduction to saddle stitch and baseball stitch. Practice hole punching and begin stitching belt borders.

• Week 6: Finishing & Hardware Installation - Punch holes for hardware, sealing and finishing techniques, and final belt assembly with buckles and rivets.

Tuition reflects full-session enrollment and covers materials, instructor planning, and scheduling. The Homeschool Hangar does not offer proration or refunds for late starts, absences, or withdrawals.
