8-Week 6 Traits + 1 Approach Creative Writing Course

This 8-week writing course introduces students to the 6 Traits + 1 Approach to Writing, giving them practical tools to become stronger, more confident writers. Through engaging lessons, creative writing activities, and hands-on practice, students will learn how to develop ideas, organize their thoughts, strengthen their word choice and sentence fluency, develop their own writing voice, and improve grammar and mechanics. Students will also learn how to revise, edit, and present their work with confidence.

Fort Myers Session:

📍 Location: Riverside Community Center​

                       3061 E Riverside Dr. Fort Myers 33916
🗓   Days: Tuesdays | October 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th and November 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th
⏰ Times: 10:00am - 11:30am
🎓 Ages: 7-10 *6 year olds who are writing full sentences are welcome
💲 Tuition: $350 per student (includes all materials)

Fort Myers Session:

📍 Location: Riverside Community Center​

🗓   Days: Tuesdays | October October 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th and November 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th
⏰ Times: 1:00pm - 2:30
🎓 Ages: 11-15
💲 Tuition: $350 per student (includes all materials)

*We are flexible with sibling groups that may fall out of class ages being placed together in the class of choice.

What Students Will Do

  • Explore and practice each of the 6 Traits + 1

  • Brainstorm and develop meaningful ideas

  • Organize thoughts into clear, logical writing

  • Experiment with voice, vocabulary, and descriptive language

  • Build stronger, more fluent sentences

  • Practice grammar, spelling, punctuation, and editing

  • Revise writing using age-appropriate strategies

  • Create and polish a final writing piece

  • Share and celebrate their growth as writers

Weekly Highlights

  • Week 1 — Ideas: Finding something to say, brainstorming, choosing a topic, and adding meaningful details

  • Week 2 — Organization: Creating a clear beginning, middle, and end, sequencing ideas, and using transitions

  • Week 3 — Voice: Developing personality, emotion, tone, and a unique writing style

  • Week 4 — Word Choice: Using specific, descriptive, and engaging words to bring writing to life

  • Week 5 — Sentence Fluency: Creating complete, varied, and smoothly flowing sentences

  • Week 6 — Conventions: Strengthening grammar, spelling, capitalization, and punctuation

  • Week 7 — Presentation + Revision: Revising, editing, responding to feedback, and polishing written work

  • Week 8 — Putting It All Together: Applying all 6 Traits + 1 to a final writing project and celebrating student growth

Tuition Policy

Tuition reflects full-session enrollment and covers materials, instructor planning, and scheduling. The Homeschool Hangar does not offer proration or refunds for late starts, absences, or withdrawals.

The Homeschool Hangar is a Step Up Direct Pay Provider. Families can reserve their scholarship funds for all classes through their EMA account.
