meets the kitchen! This unique, hands-on course combines culinary skills with real-world science, giving homeschoolers the

chance to experiment, cook, and learn in every class.

The Flavor Lab: Global Food Science

Kids travel the globe through taste and technique — learning the science behind spices, fermentation, starches, and cooking methods unique to each culture. Every week explores one region, a hands-on cooking project, and one fun experiment or sensory activity.

Week 1 – A Taste of Italy: The Science of Pasta & Sauces

     Theme: How gluten forms and starch thickens

 

Week 2 – Japan: Umami & the Art of Balance

     Theme: Discovering the fifth taste and fermentation

 

Week 3 – Mexico: The Chemistry of Spice

     Theme: Heat, capsaicin, and how the palate perceives spice

 

Week 4 – France: Emulsions & Elevation Theme: How fat and water come together

The Flavor Lab: Global Baking

This version of The Flavor Lab will take your student on a hands-on culinary journey exploring global baking traditions, food science, and cultural storytelling through dessert and bread making. By the end of this 6‑week global baking course, students will confidently apply core baking science, understand diverse cultural traditions, and work skillfully with doughs, batters, and foam‑based structures. They’ll also master temperature, texture, and moisture control while building real hands‑on baking confidence and kitchen safety skills, creating a strong foundation for future culinary exploration.

The Flavor Lab: Garden to Table

This outdoor farm‑to‑table class blends hands‑on gardening, rustic cooking, and practical garden education as students plant, tend, and taste fresh ingredients each week. Kids cook with the same vegetables and herbs they grow, taking home both planted projects and prepared foods for a truly rustic, outdoorsy, and cooking‑focused experience.

     Theme: Fresh garden salsa from farm peppers and tomatoes

 

Week 2 - Harvest Soup Workshop

     Theme: Rustic fall soup cooking

Week 3 - Brazilian Chimichurri Workshop

     Theme: Fresh herbs and bright tropical flavors

Week 4 - Garlic Dill Pickle Workshop

     Theme: Farmhouse preservation skills

Week 5 - Basil Pesto Workshop

     Theme: Fresh herbs turned into rustic sauces

Week 6 - Pizza Sauce Workshop

     Theme: Homemade rustic pizza sauce from garden ingredients

Tuition Policy
Tuition reflects full-session enrollment and covers materials, instructor planning, and scheduling. The Homeschool Hangar does not offer proration or refunds for late starts, absences, or withdrawals.
